Knox County Public Schools is the recipient of two Department of Education Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) grants. The IAL program supports high-quality programs designed to develop and improve literacy skills for children and students from birth through 12th grade.
Knox partnered with the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC) and Berea College on the two grants.
The KEDC grant project, called Project LINK, aims to increase literacy at all age/grade levels through intervention and technology in our schools. The Berea College project, part of the Appalachian IAL Promise Consortium, aims to develop supportive environments for learning with active and sustained support from parents, caregivers, and community.
Grant funding was announced in fall 2016 and both projects will begin in January 2017.
