The Knox County School District offers daily transportation services for students throughout the school district. Bus drivers pick up children in the mornings and take them home in the afternoons. Additional runs are made for preschool students, students with disabilities, and extracurricular and co curricular events.
All drivers must qualify for the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and also have annual physical and random drug tests. Upon being hired, drivers have motor vehicle and criminal records checks and a TB skin test. Intense state-mandated training is an ongoing process for all drivers. A Board of Education adopted Transportation Manual delineates all aspects of this major operation. The District’s transportation facility is located at Boone Heights, adjacent to Central Elementary School.
Safety First - Schedule Second
The Transportation Department would like to remind parents and motorists of the slogan, “Safety First – Schedule Second”. Whenever you see our buses stopped, pulling out, or coming to a stop, please use caution – we haul precious cargo.
School Field Trip Requests
Groups or organizations using a school vehicle for trips shall reimburse the Board for the bus driver’s salary (plus applicable overtime wages) and the set rate per mile as approved by the Board.
